Landforms

The Northeast is made up of two groups of states.  The two groups of states are called the New England states and the Mid Atlantic states.  The Coastal Plain is in the Northeast. It is  flat, long, and located next to the Atlantic Ocean.  There's lots of big cities on it.  The Coastal Plain is a more of a muddy lowland in the Mid Atlantic States.  In the New   England states the Coastal Plain is more rocky.  The Appalachian Mountains can be found basically in every state.  Mountains cover 75% of the Northeast.  The Appalachian Mountains are made up of smaller mountains.  The Green Mountains of Vermont, Allegheny Mountains of Pennsylvania, Catskill Mountains of New York, and the White Mountains of  Maine and New Hampshire.  The Adirondack Mountains are also in New York.  They are not connected to the Appalachians.  One of the oldest mountain ranges is Appalachian Mountains.  They are 250,000,000 years old.  The Appalachian Mountains were worn down by glaciers, winds and water.  That's why they are more of a rounded shape.  Near Lake Erie and Lake Ontario there is a small low land plain.  The upland areas of the Northeast are mostly covered by gentle rolling hills.  The fall line has many factories built there long ago because there was running water to  make power for factories. The fall line helped start the Industrial Revolution in the 1700's and 1800's.  The Industrial Revolution was when people started making things by machine.
